Gerald Edward Snyder

October 19, 1936 ~ July 26, 2018 (age 81)

Age 81, of Napoleon Township, passed away July 26, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Caring Hospice.  He is survived by his wife, Anita (Engel) Snyder of 59 years; three children, Kirk E.L. (Cynthia) Snyder, Mark G.P. (Jodi) Snyder and Alicia M. (Scott) Herpick; five grandchildren, Kristyn (Craig) Dudenhoeffer, Kylee (Tony) Mohammed, Brendan Herpick, Emilie Herpick and Gunnar Snyder; two great-grandchildren, Shea and Carter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth (Kamin) Snyder and his sister, Marilyn Pincheck.  Gerald graduated from Redford Union High School, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Hillsdale College and his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University.  He served the nation in the Michigan Air National Guard as a Military Policeman for over six years.  For 39 years he was a much respected and beloved teacher, football coach, drivers education instructor and girl’s track coach at East Jackson Community Schools.  His football and track team members were very special to him.  He was a member of the Michigan Football Coaches Hall of Fame, the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association, life time member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Michigan High School Coaches Association, Michigan Track Coaches Association, and St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church (3501 Morrill Rd, Jackson, MI 49201) where services will be held Monday July 30, 2018 at 11 am with Pastor Albert Meier Jr. Officiating.  Cremation will follow.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday afternoon, 1 to 7 pm.  Contributions in his memory are directed to the St Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church or Great Lakes Caring Hospice, (900 Cooper St., Jackson MI 49202).
