James W. Cavender

December 20, 1929 ~ September 29, 2018 (age 88)

Age 88, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home while under the care of his beloved family and the hospice staff.  Jim was born and raised in Jackson; graduated as President of his class from St. John Catholic High School and Jackson Junior College, participating in athletics at both schools.  He went on to serve during Korea in the U.S. Air Force.  Jim was a retiree of Dawn Foods, but had also worked for Utility and Industrial Supply and Zantop Airlines.  He was a longtime active member of the Jackson Host Lions Club and belonged to a local investment club as well.  Jim will be remembered for his love of golf (had 2 holes-in-one), playing cards, bowling, U of M football, Tigers baseball, listening to Big Band/Swing and Country music.  Mostly, he will be remembered by all who knew him as a wonderful, kind, gentle man; a husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great-grandfather and friend.  Jim was seen at nearly all of his grand and great-grandchildren’s events, always there to support them.  He enjoyed his regular weekly breakfast, lunch and dinner dates with family and friends; they meant the world to Jim.  He will be missed by all who knew him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret (Marshall) Cavender; beloved wife, H. Marie Cavender in 2010; son, Ron Buchler; son-in-law, Chuck Neese and sisters, Jean Anne Tapper and Mary Ellen Phillips.  Jim is survived by his loving family, his 5 children, Margie (Jerry) Horsch, Connie Neese, Mark Cavender / Carla, Chris Cavender and Mickey (Susan) Cavender; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Buchler; 12 grandchildren, Teri (Steve) Wolvin, Lori (Richard) Jennings, Tim Horsch, Scott (Janelle), Randy (Libby), and Brent (Tara) Buchler, Jack / Sandra, Carr (Jen), Kevin / Caydee, Jamie (Annabelle), Billy (Jessica) and Ian Cavender; 16 great-grandchildren, Greg (Tarin), Jamie and Brianna Wolvin, Taelar Horsch, Hadleigh, Bryce, Brogan, Hala, Teyan, Kellen and Kendall Buchler, Emilia, George, Alexander, Caleb and Sara Cavender; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Austin, Merrick, Natahlee, Makynzee and Carsen; nieces, nephews and dear friends. 

Cremation has taken place and a time of visitation will be held at Arthur-Day Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service to celebrate a life well lived will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ron Brooks of Brookside United Methodist Church officiating.  Military Honors will be presented by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team.  Jim's family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Home for their compassionate and loving care.  For those who wish, contributions in Jim’s memory to the Jackson Host Lions Club, P.O.
