Billy James Flannery

June 14, 1934 ~ January 9, 2022 (age 87)


Age 87, of Leoni Township, passed away Sunday January 9, 2022 at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home.   He was born in Martin, Kentucky on Thursday, June 14, 1934 to the late Parley and Grace (Ousley) Flanery. He is survived by his wife of 34 years; Judy Ilyn (Kill) Flannery,  five children; Terry Sechler, Alice Flannery, Katy Clark, Kayla Flannery, Amber Flannery, five step-children; Gail (David) Stamler, Ed Pepper, Patty Pepper, Tim (Cindy) Pepper and Susan (Roy) Anderson, six grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, siblings; Nora (Gerald) Tomberlin, Doris (Charles) Porter, Flo (Bartley) Bartrum, Joe (Barbara) Flanery and Bryan (Joan) Flanery, many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Billy is preceded in death by sisters; Eunice Hall, Emma Pigman and Mavis Blair.  He moved from Kentucky to Michigan in his 18th year and took a job as a cutter/grinder at TRW (then it was Kelsey-Hayes), retiring in 1994 after 42 years of service.  He was a proud member of the merged United Paperworkers,  Allied Industrial Workers of America,  Chemical and Energy Workers of America , PACE International Union which became the AFL.CIO Local 6-0670. He enjoyed camping with his wife and family.  After retirement became an avid bird watcher and was a member of the National, State and Local Audubon Society and the Dahlem Nature Center.  Bill and Judy were “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren”.  He volunteered with the Salvation Army and often worked the Christmas food collection and distribution.  At his request cremation has taken place.  Due to the ongoing concerns of the COVID problems his Memorial Service will be held on line Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 11 am with his step-son;  Rev.
