Age 75, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. David was born in Jackson on Saturday May 3, 1947 to the late Earl B. and Virginia I. (Sprunger) Dexter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon E. (Murray) Dexter; two children, Jeffrey Dexter and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Rutz; grandchildren, Kylee (Tyler) Sauceda, Colin (Olivia) and Deven Dexter, Kayden and Jena Rutz; great-grandchildren, Susan Dexter, Canelo and Noah Sauceda; brothers, Jack and Larry Dexter; sisters-in-law, Maria and Ruth Dexter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Gerald Dexter.
David graduated from Jackson High School with the Class of 1965. He continued his education at Jackson Junior College and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Physics from Western Michigan University. He retired after a 30 year career at Consumers Energy as their Supply Operations Coordinator for the Michigan Electrical Grid. He and Sharon once drove Route 66 as a fundraiser for Relay for Life.
He was a devout Christian who was an active member of the Jackson Free Methodist Church (2829 Park Road) where he belonged to their “Band of Brothers”. He enjoyed leading monthly family and friend sing-a-longs at Arbor View Estates Community Center. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Services will be held at his church on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11 am with Reverend Mark Murphy and Reverend Daryl Dexter officiating. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Napoleon, MI. The family will receive friends at Arthur-Day Funeral Home Monday evening from 6-8 pm and at the church Tuesday morning from 10 am until service time.
