Age 74, of Jackson County, passed away Sunday January 9, 2022 at Brightside under the care of the staff and SouthernCare Hospice. He was born in Jackson, MI on Monday, January 13, 1947 to the late Gayle C. and Hilda J. (maiden-Sheehan) Knickerbocker. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly A Knickerbocker; sister, Linda Turner and brother, Gerald (Sandy) Knickerbocker; several nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends notably Diane Parker and David MacCarreall. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by infant brother, Bruce; sister, Yvonne and his brother, Ron (Charlene) Knickerbocker. Ed served the nation in the US Army. He was a graduate of Napoleon High School Class of 1965, earned an Associates Degree at Jackson Community College in 1972 and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1972. He retired from East Jackson Community Schools from a teaching position he held for 25 years then went to Macon County Schools in North Carolina and taught for six years there. He was a certified drivers education instructor; at East Jackson he served as the Head Boys Golf Coach, Assistant Track Coach, JV and Freshman Basketball Coach and the JV Girls Basketball Coach. He was a long time member and three time President of the East Jackson Lions Club, Unity Church of Jackson serving as Board President three terms and the Unity Church of Franklin (N. Carolina) serving as Board President two terms. At EMU he was a member of the Epsilon Mu Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Ed was an avid golfer and also enjoyed road trips. Services will be held at Arthur-Day Funeral Home on Thursday January 13, 2022 at 11 am with Pastor Larry Rubingh officiating. Interment Roseland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm. Cemetery Military Honors will be provided by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team.
