Obituary

Age 92, of Ackerson Lake, passed away at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home on January 14, 2021 with family by her side.  Jeanetta was born in Grass Lake Township to Donald E. and Florence L. (Shafer) Berkeypile.  She married Jack K. Hatt Sr. in 1948 and had lived on Miles Road ever since.  Jeanetta was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years in 2019; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Lorena Stephenson(Grant); brothers and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Irene), Sherman (Nancy), Doyle (Louise), Delbert (Violet), Albert (Violet) and Donald Berkeypile; brother-in-law, Charles Hatt and sister-in-law, Marian Jensen.  She is survived by her beloved family; four children: Jack (Janine) Hatt Jr., Denis Hatt, Daryl (Sue) Hatt and Julie Hatt (Jim Cassel); grandchildren, Shanna Pelham and Jack Hatt III; as well as a special aunt, Berniece Shafer, sister-in-law, Mary Berkeypile and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jeanetta had a life well lived; she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and a member of the Ackerson Lake and Napoleon Communities.  She supported all of her children and grandchildren in their sporting and band events. She operated the original Fire Department call system for the Ackerson Lake Fire Station; she was instrumental in starting, and was actively involved for over 40 years, the Napoleon Township Bucket Brigade, an auxiliary group to support the fire department.  She also played a large role in putting on the annual Halloween festivities at the fire station.  She worked on the Election Board, Napoleon Township’s Precinct 2, for decades.  In 1985, Jeanetta became a “Henry Ford Allegiance Health Caring Hands Volunteer” and started knitting hats and quilts, providing tens of thousands of items for newborns, children and for the Giving Tree.  She made a positive impact on the lives of many.  Following her request, cremation has taken place and a private interment at Roseland Memorial Gardens will take place in the spring.  When health guidelines allow, and a gathering to celebrate her life can be held safely, details will be announced.  For those who wish, contributions in Jeanetta’s memory may be given to Napoleon Township Fire Department, P.O. Box 385, Napoleon, MI  49261.
