Age 85, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family and the staff of Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. John was born in Stockbridge on March 17, 1937, the son of Robert and Cathryn (Rockwell) Brooks. John worked at Kelsey-Hayes for 35 years. John had many hobbies that he enjoyed throughout his life: fishing, tending to his flowers, coin collecting, building and collecting guns, using his artistic talents in model plane and car building. He enjoyed being outdoors and could often be found riding his lawn mower around the property even when he wasn’t mowing.
John is survived by his beloved family, his six children, Suzanne Brooks, Lynette Brooks, Steven Brooks (Lonnie Ward), Amy Steffey (John), James Brooks and Jill Vowels (Jay); five grandchildren, Shane Mayotte (Marisa), Katelyn and Olivia Vowels, Lindsey and Alex Steffey; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Joann Storey (Roger), Marlene LuKenich (Mike), Shirley Householder (Harry), Dorothy Proctor (Hilbert) and Bonnie Connor; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary on May 3, 2021; infant son, John David Brooks in 1962; sister, Edith Myers and brother, Philip Brooks.
John was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11:00 am with Father Satheesh Alphonse, SdC officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Arthur-Day Funeral Home on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 3 pm to 5 pm and on Monday at church beginning at 10 am. There is no visitation on Mother’s Day. For those who wish, contributions in John’s memory may be given to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 915 Napoleon Road, Michigan Center, MI 49254.
