We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Arthur-Day Funeral Home
Passed away June 1, 2022 at age 86 at his home in Jackson, Michigan where his seven daughters lovingly cared for him. He was born on September 6, 1935 in Jackson, MI and married on May 5, 1956 to the love of his life, Marilyn. John was a builder – a builder of homes, a builder of family, and a builder of faith. He was a devoted husband and father who was the foundation of his family. He celebrated his Polish heritage and love of polka music throughout his life, and passed down these traditions to his family. He raised seven daughters (yes, no boys!), and loved them, his son-in-laws, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with all his heart. A devout Catholic, he was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked for Kroger for over 40 years as a meat cutter, and worked side jobs throughout his life as a carpenter and builder. He built three homes, including the home he lived in until the end of his life. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of The Old Guard, was an award-winning member of the Model “A” Restorers Club (Spartan Region), and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 25 years.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Frances (Smith) Plachetka; parents John Joseph Plachetka, Sr. and Mary Barbara (Cionek) Plachetka; and infant sister, Frances M. Plachetka. John is survived by his seven daughters, Cathy (Dave) Schoenfeld of Brooklyn, MI, Sue (Wayne) Fransted of Brighton, MI, Teresa (Geoff List) Plachetka of Williamston, MI, Lynn Boardman of Jackson, MI, Laurie (Mark) Curran of Highland, MI, Beth (Randy) Rowe of Jackson, MI and Carol (Randy) McCown of Jackson, MI; 17 Grandchildren, Kristan (Jason) Delmarty, John (Colleen) Schoenfeld, Andrew (Lindsey) Schoenfeld, Nicholas (Emily) Fransted, Rebecca (Shawn) McLaughlin, Joseph (Ashley) Fransted, Rachel (Josh) Meisel, Zachary (Rachel) List, Kara (Scott) Miilu, Thomas Boardman, Brendan (Alexa) Curran, Brittany Curran, Brianna Curran, Erica (Greg) Denton, Randall (Kyle Keigan) Rowe II, Jordan (Ryan) Taylor and Chelsea McCown; and 25 Great Grandchildren.
