Age 79, of Spring Arbor Township, passed away July 30, 2022 at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. He was born at Addison, Michigan, the son of Fred S. and Elsa M. (Cain) Gibbs. He graduated from Michigan Center High School and in 1963 Ken was married to the former Linda F. Potter.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, Linda; his son, Scott Gibbs; daughter, Malissa Grimes; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Catie) Gibbs, Andrea (Jacob) Fether, Zachary (Lydia) Gibbs, Tylor Gibbs (Makenzie Sexton), Hannah Gibbs, Gabby Gibbs, Amberly Grimes and Trenton Grimes; seven great-grandchildren with two more on the way; two sisters, Juanita Truman and Martha (Joe) Kearbey; three sisters-in-law, Pat (Tom) Fredrickson, Donna (Dan) Swihart and Kathy Krutsch; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Krutsch; and sisters, Donna (Fred) Moran and Roberta Mason.
In his early years, Ken worked at Hayes-Albion to get through school to become a licensed insurance agent. He went on to have a 40 year career as owner and agent of the Ken Gibbs Insurance Agency in Jackson.
Ken enjoyed playing in softball and bowling leagues; more especially camping and fishing with his family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and at Rice Lake in Canada. He was a coach for his son Scott’s little league baseball team. Ken was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson in 1963 and has been an active member and volunteer at both the church and the Trinity Lutheran School on McCain Road.
Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 122 W. Wesley Street, Jackson, MI 49201 on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Galen Grulke officiating. Interment at Horton Cemetery will follow the church luncheon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Arthur-Day Funeral Home in Michigan Center and on Thursday morning at the church beginning at 10 am. For those who wish, contributions in Ken’s memory to his Trinity Lutheran Church or the Cascades Humane Society would be appreciated.
