Age 70, passed away at Henry Ford Jackson on Friday July 8, 2022 after battling pulmonary fibrosis and small cell lung cancer. Doc was born in Jackson, Michigan on Sunday , February 27, 1952 to the late Francis E. and Evelyn R. (Saumier) Leathead. Doc graduated from Vandercook Lake High School in the class of 1971. He retired after many years as a truck driver for various companies. In retirement he worked part time in maintenance at St. John’s Cemetery. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, hunting, fishing,searching for morel mushrooms, and watching the Tigers and Lions. He loved taking his grandkids out for ice cream as it was one of his own favorite treats.
He is survived by his son; Mike (Allison) Leathead Jr., six grandchildren; Caleb Leathead, Cody Fry, Carly Fry, Colbie Leathead, Caden Leathead and Camille Fry, siblings; David (Sharon) Leathead, Sharon (Douglas) VanEpps, Kennith (Lorraine) Leathead, Regina (Edwin) Ewers, and Gary (Michele) Leathead, many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter; Misti Fry and former wife; Debby (Brown) Leathead.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will be held at the funeral home Thursday, July 21, 2022 beginning with visitation at 10 am. Service will follow at 11 am with Jon Gerten officiating. After the service, the family will host refreshment and fellowship at the Bone Island Grille in Vandercook Lake, followed by interment of cremains at St. John’s Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
