Shirley J (Oberlin) Sheldon

November 21, 1926 ~ July 12, 2020 (age 93)


Shirley J. Sheldon 93, of Lake George Michigan passed away on Sunday July 12, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Beach Park, IL.  She was born on November 21, 1926 in Albion Michigan to C. Gerald Oberlin and Edna (Hanville) Oberlin.  Shirley married Alfred Sheldon on January 23, 1946 in Butler Indiana.  Alfred preceded her in death in 2000.  She was a devoted wife and cherished mother of seven.  She loved her active life and her family. She was an avid Euchre and bingo player at the local senior center where she enjoyed socializing with many friends. She enjoyed trips with her eldest daughter to the casino. She loved knitting, dancing, and country music. She regularly attended Liberty Baptist Church where she enjoyed song and fellowship.  With her sweet and sassy personality, she was loved by many and adored by her children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by five children, Terry VanDusen (Timothy) of Napoleon, MI, Charles Sheldon (Linda) of Napoleon, MI, Pam Drew (William) of Kenton, TN, Sonya Shaughnessy (Robert) of Fenton, MI, Tina Arthur (Fred) of Beach Park, IL, and a sister, Evelyn Sildack of Jackson, MI. Sixteen grandchildren, Lori Johnson (Jeremy), Karey Birch (Scott), Kellie Garrison (Timothy), Timothy VanDusen (Marcia), Anna Jackson, Amy Christopher, Charlie Sheldon (Jahanna), Shaylon Tanner, William Drew (Stacy), Jason Shaughnessy (Jenny), Megan Hardimon (Cedric), Erin Shaughnessy (Matt), F. Jacob Arthur (Angie), Zachary Arthur (Stephanie), Caleb Arthur (Kim) and Seth Arthur. Thirty-seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, two daughters, Cheryl Townley and Judith Ann Sheldon, a grandson Scott Townley, her parents, a sister Leona Miller and her brotherGerald Oberlin. Shirley’s life will be celebrated with a memorial at a future date.
